Hi Michael

Just in from having a quick look at moon in 20X80's. I dont know much about astrophotography and what is /is not possible. But I think the pic is a little soft in detail along the terminator. I guess this is probably a hard time to capture the moon, as it is so bright.
The rays around Copernicus are pretty impressive though..

Cheers

Great shot Mike, but I also agree with Trevor. Also, at this phase, I would have thought that it would have been brighter too! By the way, why not link us to a higher resolution of your image - this one seems to be a tad pixelated - well, slightly jagged in areas at least! I'd really appreciate it more with a larger view!

Michael - sweet image. I don't see any pixellation on my monitor but I'd love to see a higher resolution.

Seanie - could those jagged edges be craters on the edge/horizon? I'm not sure. Perhaps it *is* pixellation.

WHat's the big white blob to the upper left of the image? Smart-1 perhaps?

Cheers

Dave

The roughness at the edges is caused by both the roughness of the lunar surface and jpeg reduction. However, depending on the monitor you use, the image can appear more jagged then on other monitors. I've seen some fantastic images become totally destroyed on some monitors. Not sure I fully understand why :?:

For our dial-up users here, I try to keep my images to approx 100kb but it's very difficult to do this and keep image quality. This one is approx 120kb and it's just starting to tell.

In terms of border and font, does it look any better this time??

I think the font's a lot better Michael.

Do you have any facilities to put the higher res images on another website at all?

I try to keep any of my images below the 80k mark so we can save the IFAS bandwidth.
