I'm definitely seeing 16 very different shades and am seeing this brightening of the background, it covers almost the entire right hand side of the image.

Hi Dave,
I can see all 16 shades of gray on my calibration bar at www.perseus.gr/Astro-Monitor-Calibr.htm (as per your request for confirmation).
As Dave mentions, it is almost the right half of the image.

Fab image Dave, even with an almost Full Moon in the sky? Wow. The image does show those signs of trailing towards the outer 'circular' edges. That would be the only gripe perhaps. I know its an artefact of the scope, but you should get the field flattener in place!

Dave,
I just downloaded your M3 and loaded it into PS ... the gradient is very strong in the RED and GREEN channels and quite negligible in the BLUE channel.
I tried my suggestion earlier about going grascale and then inverting (black on white) but it does not seem to bring out the gradient very well.

Anthony,
maybe if you exaggerate the gradient in photoshop, just to show Dave, where it is.
