VENUS image 2/3rd phase was created by dave_lillis
Hi All,
I had a quick look at Venus tonight, it is definitely getting bigger and reducing in phase

I stacked 1900 frames in registax and slightly brightened in photoshop.

I'm looking forward to it reducing in phase and increasing in size over the next 3 or so months. Its like a repeat of 3 years ago.

Nice image Dave.

What's the minimum (visible) phase for Venus?

Dave,
I cought it six days before it crossed the sun back in 2004, it was a hairline phase and visible in the scope, it was daytime and a number of degrees from the sun so it wasnt visible at dusk with the naked eye, atleast not from my location.

It would be really cool to try and get an image of it at its most slender. Do you reckon that's a project that might be on the cards?

Dave, that is pretty much what I did back in 2004, here is the image sequence from that apparition

This is also in a post somewhere in the site back in mid 2004.

BTW, it is very dangerous to image Venus so near the sun, the consequences for you if things go wrong is a melted scope, smoke or shattered secondary if your lucky

So the phase at the mo is about where you first image in the sequence is?

Nice sequence! Must've missed that in 2004 :D
