Nice img Dave. DId u use an IR filter or was it straight thro'?? R U sure that it was ashen light as there has been no confirmation of this ever being imaged. Antonio Ciddadao in Portugal imaged something in very far IR (nearly 1000nm) but even this has not been confirmed as ashen light.

Dave,
The reference to ashen lights (not by me) above was only kidding, I didn't see any. I used the IR cut off filter with a 3x barlow, I'm seriously tempted to get a 4x.
The temptation to over enhance the edges in registax has great, but I held back as the image becomes very unnatural, although I could spend more time in photoshop tiding up the disk edge.

There was an article in S&T magazine a few years back which said that at a certain combination of Venus phase,telescope aperture,and magnifiction something like "ashen light" is visible to the eye.

Probably an optical illusion.

Then again it might be the cloud tops lit up by those titanic thunderstorms which rage forever in the Venusian atmosphere!
