LPI imaging,Registax and focus was created by phoenix
I was out tonight playing with the LPI that came with the LX200. I was imaging Saturn and stacking in Registax. Imaging was with the LPI software.
My biggest problem was working out if I had achieved focus or not due to the variations in seeing conditions. Any tips on this?
During stacking I found that Registax would only accept 300 images at one go. Is this a processor limitation with the laptop or does Registax have an image limit.
Results at F10 and F20 below

All tips etc welcome.

Hi Kieran,
I have also found that registax has trouble with some AVI files, for me its when they go over 2200 frames, its inconsistent though. As for 300, thats very low, I dont know why it would do that.
There isn't much you can do about the seeing unfortunately, although some say stepping down the scope can help. I've never tried.
Focusing can be very difficult, the way I do it is when the cassini division looks its strongest, the image is still not sharp, but that's your best focus.
Do you have a toucam so you can compare the LPI ability against ?

The only Registax limits I know of are AVIs over the 2GB limit.
300 is a very low number, so it shouldn't have caused any problems. What is the configuration of your laptop/PC?

Dave,
The LPI was free with the scope so no other web cam. Its only now that I have the autoguiding up, with the moon that I tried it. Totally different to ccd imaging but good craic and bloody well more difficult than I thought. Whole new field has opened up and I am illiterate in it.
John as to configuration??? no idea

You PC may have low memory or a nearly full hard drive.
Good luck with the planetary imaging, I look forward to seeing more.
