As a suggestion to you Kieran, after reading the given replies, I am a novice at this, but I'll offer to points you can think about.

1) If your PC is indeed the problem i.e. low memory etc, then try taking quicker frames. Each from of your avi will not be as large, and thus, Registax should be able to cope with them, even with low PC memory.

2) Take quicker frames anyway, and thus stack more of them, to try and get a sharper image. Would there be any merit in me saying that if on a not-so-good night (seeing-wise), many more frames at a quicker rate could ensure a more sharper image?

By the way Kieran, as for the images themselves, I obviously like the larger image! :) Despite the blur, key details are evident (cloud bands, Cassini Dvision, shadow).

Kieran - I don't use Registax so I can't help you with the detail on that.

As regards focussing, you can use a Hartmann Mask (see www.weasner.com/lxd/techtips/hartmann-mask.html ).

This will help you get focus. However, you won't be able to beat seeing conditions that mean the target is constantly smearing, boiling and jumping around. That is where Registax comes in - it filters all your images and keeps those where the seeing was steadiest (and chucks out all those that didn't meet the grade).

Hope this helps

Dave

Hi Kieran,

Had some issues with Registax myself but I found (by accident) that if I run a problematic AVI through AVIRaw that the issues almost always disappeared. Might be worth a try. All you need do is open the AVI and ensure that "Normal" is selected and then save the file. It then creates a new copy of the AVI for you.

Hi

I wonder are you setting the image capture softwre to capture a maximum number of frames of say 300.

I know that the first night out I was doing this with my webcam and I had AVIs of just 6 frames  .
