I appreciate the suggestions Dave and would agree with them upon re-examination of the images.
Below is an updated image of the Leo Trio. This time, I've eased off a little on the sharpening of the stars and have left the background just a shade brighter. I would be interested in not only Dave's feedback here but on other people's opinion here to see whether it looks better at the second attempt.

A subtle change but I personally think that's a big improvement. It certainly looks more natural to me.

Many congrats from me as well on these fine images. In relation to Dave's comments, you may wish to consider something that the fellows over the pond do rather often: remove the stars from the image, process the nebulas including the sharpening you describe and then place the stars back.
I do not know how obvious it will be if you alternatively isolate the nebulas (lasso tool) and perform your unsharp masking only for these selected areas which will also happen to leave the stars as is.
Anyway, keep these gems coming our way. The best part is that summer is a step away which should mean a steady flow of images (from you! ).
