Smashing stuff Michael. I love the detail in NGC3628. Your really starting to build guite an image portfolio at this stage!

Has it ever crossed your mind to try grabbing colour data with the Canon DSLR. Perhaps not for the fainter stuff, but it might be a goer for the brighter stuff. Could save lots of time grabbing the RGB in one go.

That's an interesting idea Dave. Hadn't thought of that. Might give this a go and see what happens.

Lovely images Michael, i had a look at this trio last weekend and the edge on galaxy's shape is very prominent as are the face on ones.

Last time I saw the veil was when using an O3 filter, it really helps. Would it help to image the veil using a O3 filter ??

No harm in trying, I thionk the problem will be getting enough detail, the ST8 being much more sensitive will pick up stuff the DSLR can't however for brighter stuff it should work ok. I never tried it myself. Before I bought the interference filters I considered buying the ATIK 16HR colour to do exactly this.

It should do Dave. I have an 2" UHC filter alright, but may not be photographic grade. I'll give it a go anyway next time - can't hurt to try.

Michael - I think I might have said this before so apolgies if i repeat myself. The background in the triplet looks too dark for my liking (and its a personal preference). Its less noticeable in the veil because of the large increase in numbers of stars.

Also, in the triplet, the stars looks rather harsh - perhaps becasue of the background.

That said, the detail in the galaxies is excellent. Your framing is spot on as is focus and tracking. The Pentax/ST8 combo is certainly paying dividends.

The veil is very detailed too. Though I think that one tends to look better in colour. In monochrome it looks great too of course.

Well done and keep them coming - how could we bored of quality like this?

Dave P - you're right - the quality of the imaging just keeps getting better and better. Dare I say that images here are as good as some of the top end imagers over the pond. Its great that images post there wares, we all comment and we all learn - and hence get better. No better advert for the concept of a board!

Cheers
Dave
