Dave I noticed that before on other luminance images I had taken in the past. I think its real but no idea of why.

Kieran,

It is real. See here;

www.stargazing.net/david/messierD70/VeilNebula1_300mm.html

This must be due to an obscuring dark nebula.

Dave.

Fantastic images Kieran, it's really obvious that there is a higher star density on the top of the second image, must be a mid-ground dark nebula in there somewhere.

Yes - what a total muppet :roll:

Did I ever tell you the time that I ... perhaps not... :oops:

Nice images. The second image seems just a tad saturated - hot pixels seem to be red and fairly obvious. However, they're not too dominant and as Dave G says, you get the full spectrum and the nebulosity shows ever so well.

Well Kieran, if it's any consolation I tried some widefield imaging one night with my camera piggybacked on the scope and fitted with the 135mm f2.8 - pictures came back with nothing like what I expected as I'd lined the 'scope up on Deneb and then carefully centred Sadr in the camera viewfinder :-(

So we've all done it :-)

Fantastic results, as always, once you've got the colours the right way about!
