Crab Nebula Through 80ED was created by carlobeirnes
HI All,

I went out with the intention of having a crack at Mars but the seeing was diabolical. So I done some deep sky work I went for the Crab Nebula with the 80ED it's a bit small but some nice detail. I captured 30 x 5minutes 2Hrs-30Min of data in H-Alpha I wasn't going to post this till I got some color data but looking at the weather forecast that could be some time away.

Image taken 29th December ,New Haven Observatory Balbriggan.Through a Celestron 80ED piggybacked on a CGE14" with ATIK 16HR CCD 2" H Alpha filter, guided through C14 with 6.3 focal reducer guiding with phd Luminance was 30x5Min, Darks was 10 x 5 min No Flats with 1x1 Binning.Processed in ImagesPlus V2.8.

Fantastic image Carl. Something I hope to be able to do someday. Can you explain more about what equiptment you used to autoguide ( camera, software)? did you autoguide through the 14"?

I'm surprised you could get that level of detail with the 80mm scope.

Hi Mate,
Where do i start. ok I use a Sac 4-2 camera for guiding in the C14.When doing deep sky imaging you want a Telescope with the lowest focal lenght possible. My Scope has a focal lenght of F11 3910MM so what that means is my scope should be 13 foot long great for imaging the planets but not so great for deep sky objects. Don't get me wrong it can be done in a C14 but it becomes more difficult because of focusing & guiding. I will be getting a new scope with a lot lower focal lenght. so I will have two small scopes on a side by side plate on the CGE mount. And I will image the planets with just the C14"
