I can only agree with that because as it passed over me on the east coast it was as bright as hell. There was NO mistaking it.................brighter then Sirius.
As bright as the moon to the untrained eye (my eye)

My next scope is going to be a Vixen VMC200L Catadioptric OTA

Interesting pass tonight - I watched for the ISS on the horizon with an accurate clock counting down the seconds to aparition and lo and behold the ISS suddenly appears (more or less 'pop!') several seconds ahead of schedule and as a very deep red star. For over half a minute it did not appear to move upwards in the sky but sat still (about 1 or 2 degrees above my local horizon) just getting brighter and brighter! Only at (or around) the correct aparition time did it actually start moving up in the sky and get brighter still but steadily less red.
I saw the same effect.
It's also flaring when it gets to the east,
must be the angle of one of the panels.
I wonder if what you saw was the 'apparition' of it actually being below the physical horizon, but with diffraction through the atmosphere, you saw it ahead of itself? Much like the Sun rising and setting (in effect, when we see the Sun on the horizon, it is actually almost totally below it already).
Seanie.

Here's a single frame from tonights AVI during the 17:42 pass. Atlantis is clearly visible so I'm chuffed.

You can really make out the shuttle there.
I'm sure as you refine your technique you will
get more detail.
I tried again tonight.
Some frames look good,
but I'm off to west Clare to take advantage of the clear spell
so I'll process it later.

Great effort on a difficult task. Once my new toy arrives, I will be after something similar at, hopefully, 60 fps.
