Hi Paul,
that is the “Exposure Compensation”, might be worth playing around with this button in different increments, zero is normally OK. If you have the owner’s manual of your particular model of camera I would highly recommend going through the manual to understand all of its features, especially any manual override settings that may be more useful for what you want to do.

Mike i was just playing with the “Exposure Compensation” button at different levels. I think i could be on to something with it.

Kicks up the light in dark situation and kicks it down in bright situations.

I thought it only controlled the brightness of the LCD screen.

The cam has a 5X optical zoom, so zoom isnt an issue. Also has a 3 second or 10 second self timer.

Hope it clears tonight.

Not wishing to hijack Pauls thread, but my query is of a similar vein regarding camera settings for the moon, so I thought it was better to post here rather than start a new thread

I have a Fuji S5500 camera and took this pic last night of the moon with the camera attached to a 25mm eyepiece.

The camera has various automatic & semi auto settings plus a full manual mode. I've never even looked at the manual mode and know nothing about it,however this image was taken in manual mode with a shutter speed of 1/64, F2.9 ISO100 but don't know if these are ideal or not. What would be ideal settings and do you know any sites where I could learn a bit more about shutter speed f-stops etc as I don't really have much idea, I'm a point and shoot man. (That sounds wrong coming from Northern Ireland :P )

www.cameras.co.uk/specs/fuji-finepix-s5500.cfm shows the spec of my camera

thanks guys

Great pic CJ. I get the same kinda results when i double the cam up with scope.

But sometimes you just want to take casual point and click pics.......which is why i usually always just use the defaults on my cam. NOW i'm starting to use the cam at night i'm gonna have to go manual..............and about all i can change manually is the exposure compensation settings and the focus and zoom.....

So i've a lot to be getting on with.

I think i used a different cam to get the good moon pics in my link....but i gave that cam to my mother. Think i'm gonna have to get it back........as the one i am using doesnt quite "mate" with the scope.

The other cam also has a lot more manual settings to play with.........even if it is just a point and click Casio.

Hi Guys, some links to get you going. Get to know your cameras well by reading the owners manual and then practical use, especially making the most of any manual settings and of course to experiment, to experiment and to experiment! Good luck with your endeavors and don’t forget to post here. That’s a decent image of the Moon CJ with good detail.
