Heya again :)

Apo's aren't more powerful...the APO just refers to the fact that it has 1 or more lenses that are specially treated or coated to avoid weird color errors inherent in refractors. A good exaple of this is CA or "chromatic aberration." I think in your case, "power" is related to the focal length....say your scope has a FL of 900mm...if you use a 17mm eyepiece, then the magnification you'd have would be 53x (900/17). My scope is 600mm in FL so using the same eyepiece, I get only 35x...so, your scope would be more "powerful" than mine :)

To get those moons, I used some special "masking" techniques in processing that involved taking 2 series of .avi's. The first, I really overexposed Saturn BIGTIME so that the moons were visible...I stacked those in registax. Then, I took another avi of saturn in the best exposure I could get.....now comes the hard part....in PS, I aligned the 2 pix in 2 layers, and then made it so basically the overexposed saturn was hidden by the good exposure one....the technique is described here:

I'm still divided between true astonomy and astrophotography.

IS taking pics and processing them through digital imaging programs TRUE astrononomy? or is just observing though a scope and seeing what you see TRUE astonomy?

I am thinking the latter.

Computers can greatly enhance astronomy but they can also kill it.

I know i'm off topic and maybe this will be moved to the astronomy and computers thread.

I personally like to take raw images of what i see in my scope without digitally enhancing them.

They cant kil it................as such. They enhance it for the most..........but isnt observing with just a scope the purest form of astronomy?

Sorry FoxK for aiding and abetting the hijacking your thread  . Those pics are a pretty impressive start but I suspect you need better drivers to get the most out of such cameras. Well wear and I look forward to seeing more of your images.

what I need is the actual program to record the .avi

Go back to imagesource and pay for the license, you're pretty much sunk without it! a dedicated camera like that needs the correct software to run.
Can the mods please split this thread to keep it on topic.
