Frank,

No reason at all to be scared about modding the camera. Compared to doing an LX mod on a webcam the dslr filter removal is a walk in the park. Its really just careful dissassembly fit the new filter and reassemble. Its an afternoons work.

You might think differently after Greece!

Nah,
it looks straightforward.

Here is a fairly obvious question.
I've only ever done a few long exposure shots
(longer than 30sec that is)
and only once had to dump an image because of a foggy lens.

How do you battle this?
Is there some kind of heater / dew /petal shield or whatever?
Or do you just have to use a battery powered hair drier!?

Basically,
I'm trying to think of any pitfalls with regards
to wide angle long exp photography and so be prepared for them in Greece.

I did a fair amount of 15-20 minute exposures back in the days of film, dew is the one to look for, either a dew heater or good tissue to clean it off are the only ways. Camera battery power will be your real problem, long exposures will drain it quickly, beyond that not much else can go wrong really short of you falling over the tripod.

In the dark, this is a real problem - I've had a couple of near misses myself!
