Really?
Nothing.
Wow ok.
I thought there might be seeing as it is a problem someone
must have come up with the solution.
(or at least another solution other than using a hairdryer)
As for falling over the tripod.
It hasn't happened to me....
..yet.

Of course you can do something about it Frank,
you just do what you would do with a telesciope
and wrap a heater strip around the lens it works
a treat for me.

Yeah Thats the kinda thing I was thinking about.
I was wondering was there a specific one but
being without power in the field I was thinking I'd have to
make a heater strip that ran off batteries.
What exactly do you use?

Most heater strips are rated in watts, they are power hungry, 4 AAbatteries is not going to last you very long.
You're gonna have to get used to wiping the lens, if you're very careful about it you'll be ok, I did it for years with no damage to my camera lens, they are not nearly as fragile as mirrors. If you don't like the idea of that, then build a dew shield.

Thinking that heater strips might be too powerful for a small camera lens, I have done either of the following to combat dew: leave the camera and lens outdoors, like you would your scope, for a while before using it (in a safe place, of course), or get one of those small AA battery operated fans that you can clip onto things and attach that to the tripod.
For the fan, you can get USB fans on snake coil arms. You can easily butcher the USB connection to run of off a 3V or 4.5V series of batteries. And because it is on a snake coil, you can bend it in whatever shape/direction you want.

Hi Frank i just use a small 3" strip it's a Kendrick
so yea your right you would need power in the field.
Is this prep for Greece because i'm sure there will
be plenty of power supplies with a spare plug around
someone might even have a wee heater strip off a guide
scope that you could use.
As for being to strong for a camera lens well i'll say
it one more time it works a treat for me.
Dave sure he can wipe the lens but i think he is
talking about long exposure, even if it's a long exposure
by means of short sub's if he tries to clean the lens
between sub's there is the problem of shifting the
camera off of it's orientation.
