As for the free subscription, it does not have to go that far. I do not understand why they do not have the courtesy to inform their contributors that their work has appeared (or will appear) in the magazine and also provide them with a sample copy. I do not even want any financial renumeration.

For example, Astronomy Now will send you a check for 10 GBP and a sample issue. Astronomy Magazine in the US will send you a check for 25 USD plus two free issues. S&T will send you a check if a photo is used anywhere but the Gallery section and a $50 coupon for a photo in the Gallery section. For the former, they will also send two sample issues. Sterne und Weltraum in Germany will give you the option of 30 euros or a four-month subscription. Australian S&T will send you the three next issues for free.

Other magazines I know will at least send a sample issue or two.

I do not understand S@N ... ditto for Coelum Astronomia in Italy and where I have stopped sending material for some time ... ditto for Le Stelle (also Italy) ... ditto for Astrosurf (France) ...
