John - ever see this before with a bright star in your FOV? If so, we can put it down to a reflection as J16 :) points out.

Kieran - the link you gave shows a fuzzy blob. John's image shows a bright core with with a halo effect around it. Is this something that internal optics and DSLR's can exhibit in terms of "reflections"? I'm just curious...

Just a double check here - the MPChecker seems to include comets too. I thought it was just MP's. So, my read is that MPChecker found no solar system objects within 50 arcmins of the location of the apparent object (or reflection).

Comments? J41? J09?

Passed on the link to Astrochat guys who have alot more experience with DSLR's and filters than me but I do know that some of the other guys on the forum have had very similar results. J09 will be tucked up in bed by the way :-).

It would be a pity if it was an internal reflection, although it looks alot more defined then in the image Kieran put up, the only way to be sure is to repeat the image + setup as closely as possible and see what happens.
I've seen internal reflections from filters + focal reducers over the years, the only thing was that it was pretty obvious what was happeneing, I suppose it it possible that this is a reflection. Light from the bright star hits the camera, it reflects and hits the filter, reflects off it back to the camera.
But, the "core" of your object John looks alot more defined and solid with a definite sharp boundry with the halo, I'm not yet convinced that this is reflection.
