Thanks Dave.
Unfortunately I am a complete noddy when it comes to things like this. It's three weeks since this was taken in Boher. If it is a comet it is probably long gone by now. Any help from the "professionals (you know who)" would be very welcome:silly: .

I found a deep image on the web of that are of the sky and the fuzzy object is not there.
www.phys.ncku.edu.tw/~astrolab/mirrors/a...0301/ngc6960_tan.jpg
click on the link for a higher res image.
The stars immediately around the object are on the very top centre of the image and the fuzzy object is not there (you can star hop to its location).
if you want a challenge go try and find it in this image
www.saratogaskies.com/veil-northcrop-66pct-1536x1024.jpg
but these seem to be O3 images and some DSOs dont show up in them, if this is a very faint comet then it might be very far out which is why it is faint, so it might have moved only a degree or so in the past 3 weeks, possibly less and the fact that its wayyyy off the ecliptic raises a chance it's a newbie ! you never know.!

John - can you dig out the co-ordinates from the Boher you were at using Google Maps?

Sorry - more details required:
CCD/cmos pixel size (in microns)
Is the time of exposure the beginning, middle or end?
Duration of exposure in seconds
That'll do for now...

I believe the Canon 450d is 5.2 microns. The exposure was a single 5 minute exposure. The time I presume is at the end of the shot.(300 seconds)
I think the coords for Boher are
52.613576,-8.456039 (Dave L , jump in here.)

John
Might be worth checking the clock on the camera with a persent known accurate time and note any observed difference.
It looks cometry enough, by my eye, to warrant fixing time and coordinates.
