Jupiter 14th-12-12

Hi all,

I had much better conditions all round when Imaging Jupiter on the 14th. Now that everything is running much better. The seeing was average to good but Jupiter was shimmering and waving like a flag in parts. I’m very happy with Winjupos and this way of processing’ every time I use the programme I get a better understanding on the way it works. I was able to put six RGB’s together to make one master Red –Green and blue combine them together to get the image below with the help of Photoshop of course. Note the new feature that has shown up on the centre of the Planet looks like a swan. I got myself a new televue big Barlow to help with the image scale as I was never happy with the scale of my other images just weren’t big enough for my liking. The processing on this image was done differently first of all each image was loaded into autostakkert and processed. All the sharping was done in registax v6. Once all the images are sharpened each set of Reds Greens and Blues where analysed and de-rotated in Winjupos final processing was done in Photoshop.
The Images where captured using a C14 OTA on an AP1200 mount. Lumenera skynyx 2.0m CCD camera astronomik RGB filters and an X2 Barlow.

Some real nice detail in the equatorial zone, some nice wisps.

Thanks for the comments lads. I really like the image scale the new Barlow gives me. Dave it took around 5 hours to process the image my eye balls where killing me looking after looking at the screen for that long.

Carl - a couple of questions:

1. What do the CM1, 2 and 3 number mean at the bottom of the image? I was racking my brains but couldn't figure them out...
2. Also the de-rotated times - I could hazard a guess but it might be better coming from you
3. Whilst it is a superb image, there is a 'softness' to it. Is that seeing, un-perfect focus or planetary rotation? Or something else?

Finally, do you think you could get to the level of Chris Go or Peachy? Or are Irish skies to rubbish for that? If so, I guess you'll be heading to Barbados soon enough...

:laugh: I can relate to that, its almost like a form of snow blindness.
