Carl I finally figured out de-rotation in WinJupos like you suggested. It really makes a massive difference! I can use linked wavelets now in Registax without introducing massive noise. Check out the comparison below. This is a single image from the time lapse. The top is my standard processing with the maximum wavelets I could apply without a lot of noise, the bottom image is using the 5 nearest stacks de-rotated in WunJUPOS. Maybe I'll do this for every frame of the animation, eventually heh. Thanks for putting me on to WunJUPOS, its a great help!

That’s great news, See the way you have changed the single to noise ratio. This in turn allows for much better detail and sharping. This is what Winjupos does great, if you get the seeing there is no end to the level you can aspire to. Albert it just all boils down to the sort of seeing you get.

I thought I'd share a recent effort of mine here as well:


It's not as well executed as Johns but I was happy with it for a first effort at trying to capture an animation. As Carl says though - it boils down to seeing, and there is quite a variation over the two hours or so in the above. I think I probably need to get my collimation even more precise for trying this also.

I was using a mono camera and filters (w/ c9.25 & 2x barlow) so taking a continuous RGBRGRGBRGB... sequences, about 120 avi's. I'll be looking out for a USB filter wheel on astromart for doing this in future! As!2 to stack the best 20% of the 2000 frames, then Winjupos to combine the RGB's. My first approach was to make the frames by combinging each RGB sequence into a single frame. This resulted in a slightly jittery animation. I found that combining sequential triplets of images worked better i.e:
Code:
RGBRGBRGB... image: 12345678 Frame 1: images 1,2,3 Frame 2: images 2,3,4 Frame 4: images 3,4,5 etc.

Since I was building the animation in photoshop I did the sharpening and adjustments there also.

After seeing Johns improvements yesterday I'm going to try combining 5 or so each of the R G and B frames with winupos before combining the channels and see if that gives much of an improvement.

Brilliant! Its a lot more work using filters, my camera is single shot colour. Interesting idea on the rgb combinations. Its a very smooth animation given the time needed for each set of rgb frames to be captured.

Hi Albert,

Truly well done, you have come on leaps and bounds over the last year. There is great detail in the animation; a lot of people just don’t realize the amount of work that goes into an image like this. As it’s not just a matter of pointing a telescope at Jupiter and you’re done. The amount of time and effort just in the processing alone is draining especially on your eyeballs :>)).

If you want one Saturday we could arrange a meet up and go through everything to do with Jupiter processing. As a group and get Ideas from each other on the best ways of processing. We could all meet at the shops classroom and bounce ideas of each other. I’ll be free this Saturday to meet up if anyone wants to arrange a processing day.
