Welcome aboard the boards Gareth. You have started at the right end of the game, by buying some Binoculars. many members both new and old have binoculars. No matter where the future brings you - or if you choose to buy a telescope sometime - you will as many of us do, still have use for your bino's. I have a pair of celestron 15x70's myself and will never part with them.
There are many interesting binocular objects to enjoy such as the andromada galaxy (M31) the orion Nebula (M42) to name but two, so I recommend you have a look at buying a star atlas or download a monthly skymap from skymaps.com - has a list of binocular objects printed on the back
Have a look at where your nearest club is located and make contact.
BTW I am still fairly new to astronomy myself and there are many eminent and experienced folk out there to give advice and answer any other questions you might have)

Declan,
Thanks for the kind words and encouragement.
Thanks for pointing me in the direction of skymap. It's a great resource, especially the list of binocular viewing items.
I think my nearest society is in Tullamore, which isn't too far, so I might look into getting in touch with them.
I'm already researching telescpopes for a possible purchase in a few months time.
All the best.
Gareth.

Hello folks.
My names Sean and I have been visiting the IFAS site and reading the forum for a while now. I've always been interested in the mysteries of the sky; although I've only recently decided to begin observing for myself. By "observing" I mean investing in some kit.
I'm in my early 20's and I currently study in Liverpool. My hometown is Derry although my parents now live in Donegal. The area they live is pretty rural and far away from any of the dreaded light pollution. With plenty of space, no light pollution and a decent beginners telescope it shouldn't be long until I become familiar with the sky. My main interests up to now have been the moon and the brighter stars. I'm hoping extend this to seeing nebulae and other galaxies once I get started.
The group who post on here seem like regular and decent people. Just my kind of company. If I've got any questions I'll be sure to ask. In the mean time, if anyone from the Northwest knows off any regular astronomy related events...be sure to let me know!
All the best,
Sean
