Total Solar Eclipse July 2010 was created by JohnONeill
Hi,

Wondering anybody made plans for the 2010 Total Solar Eclipse. This is another long eclipse, with totality at max over 5 mins.

Best prospects lie along the northern most part of the track in French Polynesia. The weather prospects are somewhat less good at Easter Island.

With the tropical weather (chances of clear sky nowhere better than 60%)
maybe a ship is again the best option.

26 months and counting,

John

Lots of useful info here:

Very few land massses along the path. Cruise probably the best bet. Hotels in Easter Island apparently were booked out a few years ago for this event.

Hi,

Er, Seanie, I am not doing a TM/DB. But I will let you know of any tours.

Travel-Quest International (the company I did the last TSE with) are planning two trips: (1) Easter Island (2) Cruise in Fr Polynesia, but no details released yet,

Hi John,
I have already booked a cruise from Beijing for the eclipse. Check out Mayhugh Travel at www.astronomyvacations.com for details. I know at least two other IFAS members have booked for this as well.

Hi,

Bernie, I think you are refering to the 2009 Eclipse, not the 2010 Eclipse!

The next three totalities are:

1 Aug 2008: Siberia and Gobi in west China
22 Jul 2009: south and east China; western Pacific Ocean
11 Jul 2010: south Pacific Ocean

With all these overlaps it can get confusing.

As for on the the Mayhugh Cruise (2009). That was the one I discovered and booked! I mentioned it to JF, who spread the word on this forum,

John
