Well done to you all who got a view, I know the weather did not help for some which was a real pity. I got a wonderful view of it here in east Cavan, even at minus 13.5C it was worth it. I could follow the eclipsed moon all the way to my horizon :) I have to say I was really lucky as the fog last night was really bad.

Here is a taste of what the scene was like over the snow-covered fields B)

And right at moonset from my site, this was really hard to see as it seemed the moon was getting ever darker, and with the brightening sky, this enede off a lovely show

Managed to see it this morning albeit through foggy cloud low down. All across the whole west and north horizons there was this massive fog bank. At random times there was a shift in the fog that allowed me to see the Moon for a couple tens of seconds, it was eerie. It looked more grey-orange from where I was from 7:50am. I was lucky to see it too, as I had 2 live commentaries this morning on Midlands 103 who were broadcasting from Portlaoise (I was in Daingean near Tullamore) to give people there a sense what was happening.

Got some good views in Cork.

Here's a pic, a bit crude, but you get the flavour.

Fantastic Philip! I was hoping there'd be a photo.

When I was just 11, I awoke very early and - for some inexplicable reason - I looked out the window accross the back field and saw a great big red orb low in the sky. I was baffled! I thought Mars had suddenly got closer or something. Now I know better.

Or at least I think I do. (Twilight Zone music...)

The Solstice Lunar Eclipse 2010 was fantastic!
After some frantic driving by the SAC crew to get to a higher location to avoid fog and clouds the eclipse was well underway.
(We ended up on Keeper Hill in Tipperary!)
But it was worth it as it was really cool to see the Moon turn a lovely shade of red as the sky brightned near dawn.
