Depens what you call "space debris".
I wouldn't rule out a meteor based on the above.

By that time it was due North, at an altitude of 50 or 60 degrees and was a spectacular sight. It had fragmented into a dozen or more pieces, many of which were disintegrating further. We watched it as it passed slowly to the West where it faded from view to the WNW. Like many of the others, I was too gobsmacked to make any notes, so I'm guessing that it took about 10 seconds to disappear. It was an amazing spectacle, a little spooky because it was so unlike anything I've ever seen before.
