'Are UFOs Real?'

Hi,
Just thought I would post this interesting information regarding an “open letter” from Mr. Stephen Bassett, Executive Director of Paradigm Research Group to Mr. Al Gore regarding his mission to inform people of global warming, its implications for us and to the Earth, see “An Inconvenient Truth” in which he is due to receive an award on February 27th 2007.
An interesting aspect of this letter is saying that the technology does exist to solve this problem and Mr. Gore has known about it from his previous governmental positions. The technology is “Extraterrestrial” in nature! Here are some excerpts from his letter…

“Many of the solutions you present are based upon existing and projected technological innovation. What if there were technology capable of dramatically advancing and accelerating the solution process, and this technology was being withheld as a government policy? Would it not be unethical to allow that to continue?

“I believe you already know this via contacts made during years of study of national security, arms control and nuclear proliferation issues while in the Senate and from your service as an active and powerful vice president. If you are not aware of the validity behind this “other inconvenient truth,” ask your good friends Bill and Hillary Clinton or President Clinton’s senior policy advisor, John Podesta. They watched from the Oval Office while billionaire Laurance Rockefeller worked through the Office of Science and Technology Policy for three years to persuade the Clinton administration to end the truth embargo – the Rockefeller Initiative”.

Hi
In “Physics World” journal (February 2007 Volume 20 no: 2) edition there is a small section on the subject of UFOs. It states;

UFOs on the Web
For many, unidentified flying objects are just a figment of the imagination. For others, they are real objects that may contain little green men from distant worlds. It is to satisfy members of the latter group that the French Space Agency, CNES, will shortly publish online (at www.cnes.fr ) the roughly 1200 reported UFO sightings that have been made in France over the past thirty years, having apparently been criticized for “hiding” the data.
We look forward to seeing the evidence, persuasive or otherwise.
[End quote]

English version of this website may be found at:
www.cnes.fr/web/455-cnes-en.php

I wonder if the Physics World Journal be bold enough to publish the French Space Agency report findings? Reading between the lines from above, persuasive or otherwise, I think probably not!

Regards
Mike

When did Physics World go from being a magazine to a Journal?

Still, interesting to see the French publishing data.

Hi Bart
Correct, I think! I am not sure, is it a magazine or a professional journal? I think I
would agree with you however and ere on the side of describing it as a magazine.

Journal…
“Many publications issued at stated intervals, such as magazines, or scholarly academic journals, or the record of the transactions of a society, are often called journals.
Although journal is sometimes used as a synonym for "magazine," in academic use, a journal refers to a serious, scholarly publication, most often peer-reviewed. A non-scholarly magazine written for an educated audience about an industry or an area of professional activity is usually called a professional journal”.

Small point I know. It is interesting however that the French authorities, including CNES have already published a major report in 1999 into the UFO situation, I think “Eamonn A” may have mentioned this report previously...

Cometa report
“In 1999 an important document was published in France entitled, UFOs and Defense: What must we be prepared for? ("Les Ovni Et La Defense: A quoi doit-on se préparer?"). This ninety-page report is the result of an in-depth study of UFOs, covering many aspects of the subject, especially questions of national defense. The study was carried out over several years by an independent group of former "auditors" at the Institute of Advanced Studies for National Defense, or IHEDN, and by qualified experts from various fields. Before its public release, it has been sent to French President Jacques Chirac and to Prime Minister Lionel Jospin. The report is prefaced by General Bernard Norlain of the Air Force, former Director of IHEDN, and it begins with a preamble by André Lebeau, former President of the National Center for Space Studies (Centre National D’études Spatiales), or CNES, the French equivalent of NASA. The group itself, collective author of the report, is an association of experts, many of whom are or have been auditors of IHEDN, and it is presided over by General Denis Letty of the Air Force, former auditor (FA) of IHEDN”.

France's release of its UFO files has led to major international news coverage. This is a positive development since it provides more hard evidence for researchers that the UFO phenomenon is worth taking seriously. It helps get the public interested in UFOs and the extraterrestrial hypothesis that they are interplanetary in origin. We can expect a continuous series of analyses of these reports as experts begin poring over the data.

The release by France's premiere space agency, CNES, follows the 1999 COMETA issued by a distinguished group of French experts from the aviation, military and scientific community calling for the release of UFO information, and establishment of a UFO database for the French speaking world. France's action will help create momentum for the 1978 UN resolution for a global monitoring agency for UFOs that has never been implemented.

Hi Eamonn
Yes, it is certainly big news internationally; New Scientist, Fox News, Ireland.com Irish Times, BBC, Space.com to name but only a few are carrying the story. The demand was so great on the CNES computer server that it crashed within two hours after the announcement to the media regarding the disclosure of previous held UFO information.

From what I have found out by digging a little as it were is that there is a wealth of high quality data available; (photos, audio, videos, creditable witnesses [Police, Military, pilots, scientists, professional people etc], scientific analysis and investigations of these cases stretching back for decades that would keep any researcher with an interest in this area busy for a number of years to come, hopefully the information will be translated for wider dissemination (or else we’ll need to sign up for French lessons)!

Quotes (various news bulletins relating to CNES story)…..

“Other cases were impossible to crack. The most baffling were labelled “Class D aerospace phenomena” — which the agency defines as “inexplicable despite precise testimonies and the (good) quality of material information gathered.” Some 28 percent of sightings fall into this category”.

“Evidence such as burn marks and radar tracking showing flight patterns or accelerations that defy the laws of physics are taken very seriously”.

“"We do not have the least proof that extra-terrestrials are behind the unexplained phenomena," says Patenet, adding: "Nor do we have the least proof that they aren't."

“The online database should help scientists interested in studying the mysterious observations, he told New Scientist: "We also want to send a message to more scientists, inviting them to help us analyze these phenomena, when otherwise they might feel uneasy about these issues."

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting in person a certain Mr. Gildas Bourdais, the well known and respected French UFO researcher/writer last September. His knowledge of the UFO subject, political, scientific, history etc., from a level headed and sensible approach was quite impressive. It was his impression that such a release of information was to come about sooner rather than later. In fact he has been pressing for such a release of information for a number of years now, for example in March 2002 he gave a lecture at the “World Symposium on UFOs and related Phenomena” entitled “"UFO, Ufology and institutional recognition." and I quote:

“Skepticism about the mere existence of UFOs still prevails in many countries, among scientists and intellectuals. For many of them, UFOs belong to the "irrational" beliefs of "pseudo sciences." This attitude is still very present in France, where "rationalism" has been predominant for at least two centuries. On the other hand, UFOs are studied officially at the National Centre of Space Studies (CNES/SEPRA). So, the situation has never been completely blocked in France.

“Skepticism about UFOs has been sustained for half a century by the official policy of denial and of secrecy maintained in some countries, prominently the United States of America. However, more and more witnesses have been talking of secret operations, and there may also be at work a discreet policy of gradual release of secrecy”.

Clear skies
Mike
