This is for anyone who missed out on the ETX like me. The manager at the Lidl I went to said that if enough people call their headquarters still wanting one of the specials they will do a rerun if they can get the stock.
Call freephone 1-800-347447 and tell them your five brothers want them for Xmas.
Be prepared to be told that extension 666 is out of use and that they can't be arsed to reply to your voice or emails. Albert had a great suggestion for using this sale to popularise ourselves, IFAS and this site but unfortunately there wwas no reply from Lidl (only thing I learned from that line is that Lidl rhymes with needle apparently!). Still - it would be no harm in trying!

Either everybody loves Lidl, or there are a hell of a lot more irish astronomers out there, this could be a great way to promote IFAS!!
Anyway i've checked all in the box, but have'nt set up yet.

Just another tip, I find that the text is a bit hard to read when its scrolling across the screen, one way to make it more readible is to go into
utilities and then reduce the brightness to the minimum visible setting and then play with the contrast until its easier to read.
I thought there was a way or reducing the speed of the scrolling text or is that in the more advanced aurostar, maybe its time to read the instructions.
Tomorrow, I might buy a cheap AC/DC converter and put a 9v connector on it, at this rate the batteries will be dead by the end of the week  .
Looking forward to a clear gap in the clouds,
BTW, I got 4 locking bolts wiht my ETX (the ones for attaching to the tripod), looks like to me I only need 2, anyone need a spare ???

Just thought I might share this one with you:
I sent a friend who ,professing a recent interest
in Astronomy and desiring to purchase a 'scope,
into Lidl Baldoyle,Dublin.
Not to be outdone by my collection of 'scopes he
decided to buy both the Meade and the Skylux.
He called around this morning after his purchase
and unwrapped the Meade, however we found him
to be short the Autostar hand control, all the eyepieces
and the software. He returned hotfoot to Lidl who
offered a refund-He refused. They said they would check
other stores. On calling back to the store this evening
and enquiring a harresed looking asst.mamger
informed him that they are very busy and have a store
to run!
Hoping for the best tomoorow,He went home and
unwrapped the Skylux- it is missing the objective lens!
Guess who gets it tomoorow!

I've written to the Nenagh Guardian Shane to see if they'll print an item about the scopes; basically, I've plugged this site as the place to go for people to learn more about the ETXs and astronomy. Also mentioned Shannonside, Tullamore and Birr society's as the main clubs in the mid-West region.

Thats seriously bad luck with the 2 scopes, I'd imagine the skylux is still around, as for getting an autostar, did he try ringing the phone number in the meade manual ??
Next time I buy anything in lidl, I'll check it to make sure its all there before I leave the shop !!
John, keep up the good work !
