The posts are really flying in these days, its hard to keep up to date with them.
Marko,
if the focusing rod has slipped into the tube you might be able to get it back out the hole, the focusing knob is held on with an allen bolt, if you fnd it use some glue like stated above, bring it to your nearest clubs next meeting, maybe someone there with a touch of DIy could help you.
As for the display, I've come to the conclusion that when the text is scrolling, all it does for me is give me a headache, but to be honest it doesnt matter as that text is usually just extra info which I'd delete of the autostar given a chance, there are a number of things in the autostar such as black holes, quasers etc which just should not be in there, sure the scope will slew to where they are, but you certainly wont see them, think of it as more of a pointer to where these elusive objects are in the sky.
If your seeing a damp part in the middle of the screen, then maybe this might be dew on the inside of the display ?? this isnt a LCD system so its not a cracked display, ring the help line.
As for 4000 series eyepieces, again try scopetronix, they're going for $49 each, these were meades standard eyepieces used on scopes between ~$500 and $17000, the 5000 series have slightly wider fields of view, I dont think they worth the extra money.
I ordered the focus cable for the scope, I could see that even on the etx90, that it was unreachable in certain positions.
If you getting wierd and wonderfull errors on the autostar, change the batteries and open both the locks on the drive, turn the scope on and see what happens, if your still getting errors, I'd bet its a loose internal cable near the drive assembly. just be carefull do not rempove the tube from the forks, this is factory alligned and if tampered with might reduce the goto ability of the scope, on bigger scopes its a major no no.
The yellow ring around the moon is chromatic abberation, there is nothing you can do about it, some eyepieces indice it more then others, I noticed that with the 4000s it wasnt as pronounced and it was blue, which is less obvious, atleast to me. Also, if I placed my eye to far from the eyepiece, the yellow became very evident, staying closer reduced it quite abit, a strange effect that I havent come across before.
The instructions say to check all alle bolts on the scope using the provided allen key, you cant say they didnt warn you.
phew...
