I suspect you mean customs and duties instead of income tax. Anyway, whether it is new or used, there is customs and duties due on the sum of the declared value plus shipping costs.

Many people are clued in about customs etc on receiving large-valued goods. I have bought from Astromart and other sites, and most of those times the shipper put a lower declared value than what I paid for on the item, and labelled it as a gift too.

how does it work if i visit somewhere on holiday, like the good old US, and purchase some expensive equiptment? Will customs nab me or can you bluff your way through that?
