I suspect that any item imported 2nd hand from overseas would be subject to VAT.

Talking about carrying scopes through customs, on the way back from the Turkey eclipse trip Dee was carrying the ETX-70 in its backback through Dublin customs... they stopped her to talk about it! :lol:
