Solstice meeting?? was created by galwayskywatchers
Has anyone ever thought about doing some sort of a meeting during the time of the solstice, ok i know we cant see any thing around that time and some of the clubs are on a break but by looking at the activity last summer on the site everyone was quiet busy catching in some sort of observing whether it was Noctilucent clouds, flares, whatever.
What i am sasying is it a long 6 months between Cosmos and the Whirlpool, Our starparty was a nice breather in between and i would like to see us meet more often, i know there is the TAS meteor watch in August whiich was very enjoyable last year. But how about an IFAS convention, maybe one day and a "cheap" venue, we dont need any serious speakers, how many of us in clubs go around the country giving talks already. Let us entertain each other.

Sounds like a great idea. I might even have a secluded, private location in Galway (need to speak to the future Mother-in-law  ) if that's where it was to be. Good dark site too when the sky is clear...
How's about a Solstice workshop on solar astrophotography then?
All those in favour...

This is starting to look like a good idea,
although, I dont think a dark site is an important factor for a solarday  just kidding, I know what you meant.
First of all, it would nearly need to be on a weekend, would people do this on a weekday??

The IAA hold an informal BBQ at the Armagh Observatory on the Saturday nearest the Solstice. Mark Bailey also provides a guided tour of the Observatory facilities.

Maybe we could just do it as an IFAS country-wide event, the first of its kind?
While most clubs are somewhat dormant during the summer months, there are still people around, and why not give a few like-minded tourists something to talk about when they go back home?
Barbeques all round then?
Seanie.
