Hey Carl,

one theme of the posts you keep mentioning that I think holds little grounds is that of the County Council - you do not need the permission or other of the local council to set up a club. In short, all you need are:

1) a venue;
2) some 'capital' to finance the venue's rent if necessary (membership and/or admittance fees may then cover it after he first meeting onwards);
3) lots of free time to do mail shots, prepare an opening lecture, posters, radio/newspaper drive, and so on;
4) use or abuse (;)) of your fellow enthusiasts here to help you with volunteering to give a lecture, maybe with a few bob towards fuel for those longer-distanced travellers, who in turn will help promotion wherever they are coming from;
5) insurance to cover you from personal liability, and those attending from any unfortunate but necessary claims, in your newly established club.

Can't think of anything else, but those of us here who are perhaps veterans of chipping in the running of our respective clubs can help you along the way.

Oh, and best of luck with NDAS!

Hi seanie,

I going to the co council to ask them for funding. I will tell them my plan and see what happens. I might get lucky then there will be no members fee or lecture fee.

thanks for the tips. :)

No problem Carl, and I figured in the back of my mind that was the reason of your Council inclusion. I just like to NOT think about that option, because as it stands, there is no such avenue of funds from Offaly County Council for TAS (it's a county-by-county thing). You might just get either procrastenation from their future requests for insurance and/or assurances, and then feel dejected if they turn you down.

My opinion? Pursue the club first, then when you have a venue that works and some sort of insurance agreement in place, tackle the local funding option. I reckon you would then have a greater chance of getting money from them because you have shown (at start up) that it works, and it will be money well spent by the Council's point of view.

Well I had a very busy day today.First off all the County Council loved the plan and said there should be no problem getting funding for this sort of thing and the are only to happy to help.So then went to meet the people in Beat in Balbriggan they are like Fas I had no problem getting a room from them, there rooms hold up to 25 people.I was also told that I can have use of the community hall in the town that has seating up to 100 people. I'm going down to have a meeting with them in the morning at 10.30 they are going to show me all of there rooms. So for so good.

If this plan gets some of the teenagers off the streets and away from drugs wont it be worth it. Give them something different to do and get them all looking up.
