Astronomy Club for North County Dublin

Wishing all the best and success with the forthcoming new club.
It seems that a club in the north of Dublin fills the gap for that area.

Interestingly and surprisingly enough, their are no clubs in the north west of Ireland where I live. I looked at the distribution of clubs in Ireland and their is a vacuum here.

Thanks Eamonn I was looking at that to.considering the dark skies in that part or Ireland it would be a great place for an Astronomy club.

The Fingal County Council asked me would I consider changing the name of the club to The Fingal Astronomy Club instead of north Dublin one. I said if they give me the money I'm looking for I will call it what ever they want.:laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

Hi Everyone,

A few of us met up in Skerries on Saturday to discuss getting this group kicked off.

Carl has done some groundwork already on getting in touch with Fingal Co. Council with regard to getting funding for a fully fledged astronomy society. There is an application being sent in for funding at the moment. The other benefits of this council backing is that we will have access to a room with modern equipment for presentations etc. when we need it. IFAS will be contacted about membership also and an interim committee will be put in place as soon as possible.

I think it will take a few weeks to get through the procedures required to get this up and running. Hopefully we can hold our first observing session in the next few weeks. More news when it becomes available.
