Cloudy Jeff!
Unfortunately the weather did not play ball even though
our main contact in the area went so far as to make sure
ever house in the locality went lights out or near enough to it.
There was some fog & mist and if you lit a match you would see it
but yet it was pitch black up there.
Even more so than us in SAC are used to.
(I even walked into a wall in the stone fort and busted my knee!)
: blink:
Conan found a small viewing area on the other side of the Mountain
where there was a temporary patch of clear skies.
We all tore off down there and had patchy views of Jupiter.
I just had the scope set up when the clouds closed us out again
but Piers Bizony and a few students that were camping in the area
got a brief nice view of the planet & the bands / moons
which they were in awe of.
Later in the morning the skies cleared totally but everyone
was in bed pretty much at that stage.
Ronan Newman cought some clear skies in Ballyvaughan
and I sat at the pier around dawn myself having a good old
gaze before bed.
I really felt for the guys and gals that made the trip but
hopefully the lectures, surroundings and craic was a good consolation.
A good proper observational starparty is sorely lacking in this country
but we are at the mercy of course of the weather.
Still, there is always next year!
:woohoo:

Bummer.
I'll have to trundle down there next year with the solar rig -- perhaps that will double our chances of some observing.
Cheers,
-- Jeff.
