Hi Michael & Dave, just so to avoid a hasty rush when the day gets close, is it easy to get to dunsink observatory? Could there be a road route posted?

Thanks,

Keith.

I think this will do the trick. If I've made a mistake, please correct me. Or if anyone can embed a Google Map, that would be even better :)

To get to Dunsink, you need to approach it via the M50 or the N3.

M50 Northbound (from Junctions 7 to 17)
Travel North on the M50.
Pass through the Toll Area (note, you need to the pay the toll by 8pm the following day - www.eflow.ie )
Continue to the Blanchardstown Exit/N3 (Junction 6) and take the off ramp.
At the top of the off-ramp, continue around the roundabout and take the 3rd exit - you will be travelling East on the N3.
At the next roundabout (you'll see the Travelodge Hotel), take the first exit - signposted Dunsink Observatory (a brown sign)
Continue down this narrow road (a cul de sac) until you see the sign for Dunsink Observatory (entrance is on your right).
The entrance to Dunsink is a few yards before the "Road Closed" sign.
Turn right towards the main building and park in an appropriate area (avoid obstructing other cars).

M50 Southbound (from Junctions 4 or 3)
Travel South on the M50.
Continue to the Blanchardstown Exit/N3 (Junction 6) and take the off ramp.
At the top of the off-ramp, take the first exit off the roundabout - you will be travelling East on the N3.

N3 Eastbound (East of the M50)
Travel East on the N3.
On approach to the M50 roundabout, take the second exit off the roundabout.

N3 Westbound (West of the M50)
Travel West on the N3.
On approach to the Travelodge Hotel Roundabout (which is prior to the M50 roundabout), take the third exit.

Hi guys,

Good luck on the day with the astrophotography workshop.

Just wanted to add that there is a sign-post for Elm Green Golf Club at the Travelodge Hotel roundabout too. Once you spot that you will be turning down Dunsink Lane.

The lane curves and dips down kind of steeply but starts rising back up again. You'll then see the entrance to Elm Green on your right after this and the M50 over on the left paralleling Dunsink Lane. Carry on about a kilometre and a bit after the golf club (the road is a bit "patchy" to say the least) and you'll come to the gates of Dunsink on your right (there is a barrier across the road at this point anyway.)

Best,

John
