For the same money you could get a nice 8" dobson scope without any worries about faulty electronics. The Meade Lightbridge 8" is £399.

Here's the Meade web page: www.meade.com/lxd75/index.html
It's a 152mm (6") f/5 Newtonian (N6) on a GoTo (AT) German Equatorial mount (the LXD75 part of the bundle), which means that it tracks your target once you find it. You can certainly buy a Dobsonian mounted 8" for the same money or less, but that has no tracking. Whether you choose this model really depends on what you want to do, personally I use the mount when I have lots of time to set it up and 'train' it, but I use the telescope on a different (AltAz Giro II) mount when I don't have so much time or I'm taking an opportunity presented by a break in the weather. I've viewed the Moon, planets, galaxies, bright nebulae and asterisms with it and it is the best telescope I have, but there are better available.
Just as the N6 can be mounted on other mounts, other telescopes can be mounted on the LXD75 mount to take advantage of its AT (Autostar) GoTo functionality. They don't even have to be made by Meade, all they need is a suitable dovetail and to meet the weight and length restrictions.

I found a few photos, if anyone has more examples, specifically for this model that would be nice.
I am considering buying this telescope, but obviously it is a lot of money and I want to be sure of what I am buying.
Why is this telescope a good deal? What can I compare it to?

I know Larne got 2 because I had both of them, both with the same fault, but I managed to sort out #2 and it has been fine ever since!
