I will always take the punk rock attitude.
Big business is bad.
(for the most part)
The Fred in the shed is going to produce way more superior stuff than the
bottom line concerned multi.
(e.g. Obsession scopes?)
I can't help but feel like these buyouts are done to destroy sales of a product.
Can you imagine what would happen if Meade bought out Obsession?!
The 20'' would be perfect (made in the good ould USA and costing a FORTUNE,
the rest of the range would be made assembled in China and there would be a 'shrug your shoulders' attitude to duds.
Not good.
And hey Dave,
what have you got against skateboards?!
Billions of USD are pumped into the design of these bad boys every year.
More R&D is done on new 'radical' designs than all the car companies thrown together!
Down with big business up with the half pipe!

It was only the tube and mount that came from China. The optics were from Irvine. At least so the quality control sticker on my LXD55 says.
Even though my experience with the scope has been pretty good I'd hope they don't use that factory for optics!

Given that most of the problems with the RCX400 have been caused by the assembly line, I just hope they don't use the same Chinese production line that the lidl LXD75 scopes came off of.

Of course its possible to get top quality stuff from the Far East.
Toyotas really are the most welll built cars in the world.
American car manufacturers are right now in full retreat from sheer Jap quality.
This is a reprise of when Jap motor cycle manufacturers wiped the floor with European and American makers.
They won on quality.
(Seen a European made bike lately?)
I notice "Made in Japan" printed on my Canon EOS 400d.
My Chinese made Celestron 6 inch refractor is a very well made scope.
Generalisations are plain stupid.
Peter.

What the hell is a 'real' car anyway!?
Dave.
You know the way I'm accident prone?....
Heres one to put the hairs standing...
I skateboarded up to about 4 years ago!
Down hill slalom long board was my thing...
I'll let the thoughts of the falls I've had propagate in your head.
As for surfing injuries....
Pull up a stool....
This is gonna take a while....
Anyway...
Apart from all that crap
I'm sure thousands of people get stuff that works from the far east.
But it's only put together out there cos they can get away with paying
crap money to people in dire straights who need the work.
Like Dave,
I'd much prefer to pay a higher price not only to know that the item was
made in the highest possible standards, but the person making it was paid a fair and decent wage too.

Eh? Pot, black, kettle....
Toyatas, best built cars in the world? Nah, don't think so.
Try McLaren (either their top range road vehicle or their F1 vehicle).
Or how's about an Aston Martin (DB9 of course)?
Would Sir like to see the Bentley Arnage? No, Sit can't touch it I'm afraid... Yes Sir, the blonde in the passsenger seat is part of the package. Buit maintenenace is your responsibility. (Of course, Bentley's are made in England - proabaly not the blonde though).
Rather like cars, you can get your mass-produced, reasonable quality, off-the shelf OTA's that will get you from A to B very nicely.
Or you can pay for the privelege of a hand crafted precision instrument. Your choice. RCOS, AP, Obsession. These are names that in the car world would read Aston Martin, Bentley etc. Of course, the journey from A to B is the same, but much more satisfying.
Of course, an F1 car would be more akin to Hubble, Spitzer etc...
