Citroen? Have I stumbled onto an astromotors forum?
Just had a quick scan at that news article, and I think it's odd that all Meade solarscopes are discontinued. What would the reason for that be? Has popularity gone down for solar scopes? I wonder if Coronado was not bought out by Meade would they still have been successful if that be the case.

Would none of you get stiff from the thought of driving a Veyron? 1,001 bhp and a top speed of 407km/h!

Let's not get cofused. All but one of the Coronado models being cut are Calcium-K instruments, which sell in far smaller quantities because they are typically used for imaging rather than visual observation. If sales figures were low and particularly if those lines had become loss leaders it makes sense. Meade can only afford to continue to sell products they can make a profit on, where Coronado as the company was originally constituted might have been able to carry them for the love of the art. It appears that they are only cutting one Solarmax model - the 70mm - and that makes sense to me for the same reasons. The remaining range of 40mm, 60mm and 90mm Solarmax instruments make a logical lineup. And the popular PST, which made H-alpha available to many more people than ever before, will still be available.
The cuts in the Meade-branded lineups also makes sense. All of the models being suspended seem to me to be high-end, US produced and probably low volume, while the ones that they plan to continue include the higher volume US-produced lines and the products that are made in China, including everything that bears the Bresser brand. If Meade wants to survive as a company this is exactly what I'd expect but the question that remains is whether it is enough to make the difference or too little too late.

All I can say is RIP Meade. When you ditch your so called top of the range scope then you also ditch the customer base especially after all the hype and court cases
