It's an upgrade in terms of both bandpass and aperture when compared to the PST (40mm, < 1 Anstrom). For the improvement in both I think it's worth the money.

Alot of PSTs come in around the 0.7-0.8A mark anyway.
Aperture is slightly increased, but nothing significantly.
I used to own a Solarmax 60 filter but find a double-stacked Solarmax 40 much better.

1.5 times the aperture makes a difference to resolution. It's significant enough that I've ordered one.

I think the bigger aperture will also lead to brighter images, a dim image is the one big drawback for me with the PST or the smaller solarmax scopes.

Worth reading this, especially if you are looking at a "double-pass" unit:

Thanks for sharing that Michael.
That's actually really good news for anyone who ordered a 60 DP. Now they will get a DS for the same price and have both .5A & .7A capability - which is one reason that I was leaning towards the external 50mm filter double-stacked.
I've heard that they will be increasing the price of the 60mm DS shortly due to the extra cost of an additional etalon.
Still trying to weigh up whether to go for a 50mm DS or the 60mm. It's a real shame that there isn't an available aperture between 50 & 75. The special introductory offer on both will end next month so I guess I will decide soon
