SKylux mount meets a hacksaw... was created by michaeloconnell
What do you get when you cross a skylux mount, a hacksaw and a carry-on sized suitcase?.......
This:
I shortened the legs on the mount. Just need to remove the mount head from the top of the tripod and it all easily fits into the carry-on suitcase.
I have a RA drive from an EQ-3 scope (my first scope) and the gears appear to be the same size as on the skylux mount. I removed the skylux scope itself and have my camera on the mount now.
Hopefully it will make a nice little portable tracking platform for wide-angle images of the night sky.

Hey Michael that's a cool looking set up.Remember to
tell her in door's before she book's the holiday's that
you have one requirments, anywhere with dark skies
I cant wait to see some shots, the summer milkyway from
a dark sky is always a favourite, but you will get some great
constellation shots as well.Do you use filters Michael ?The
CLS insert filter for the canon from Telescope Servise works
a treat,it will let you push the exposure from light polutted
areas. And try out some fixed trails if you fancy here's some
free software for stacking you can download it here www.startrails.de/html/software.html

Cheers Declan.
To be honest, I haven't done much imaging with my DSLR to date as I have a CCD camera (SBIG ST8XME). I had a 300d which I modded but a few months ago when I went to use it, it mysteriously died. I have a 400d now which I picked up second-hand and would be bringing that on hols anyway. I'm aware of the Telescope Service filters alright but won't invest in them till I put the 400d through it's paces a bit more.

Hacksaw O'Connell,
Nice work! Is this in anticipation of any "excursion"?
