Here are 2 pics of Saturn I got, one without and one with the IR filter.

BTW, how did you take these?
Was it at prime focus, or afocal?

BTW2 They are fab pics. I'd seriously consider framing some of mine for a future house, if they were 1/2 as good.

Hi Paul,
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, I was away for the week.
Both of those were taken at the prime focus of a 12" SCT as videos using the simple program that came with the webcam.
I then pushed each through registax with a small bit of tweaking in photoshop aftwewards. The number of frames processed was in the order of the high hundreds.
I use a flip mirror for centering the webcam, a very handy piece of equipment, makes centering effortless.

Anyone with a reasonably sized scope and a webcam would be able to get decent images of the bigger planets.

That's great Dave, thanks.
I hope you had a good time off.

I'm looking forward to trying out my webcam.

If you get a min, can you tell me about the flip mirror set up Dave please.
I'll be using the cam-adaptor, so will it apply here?

(P.S. Dunno if a fresh thread should be setup here - don't want to push the boat out too much :!: )

Paul,
I'd imagine you could use a flip mirror with a camcorder, I presume you'll use this cam-adapter to attach the camera to the scope ? I use it with the webcams and 300D.

Basically, the flip mirror lies between the camera and telescope, it has a mirror which you can flip up and down, so the light is either going to the camera or its going to an eyepiece on the side.
The idea of this is that once the object is centered in the eyepiece, all you do is flip the mirror and its automatically centered in the camera, makes finding objects in a cameras narrower field of view very easy.

It makes webcamming much easier
a great anti maddening device

If you want to start a new thread, do so, but I wouldnt start one with an answer like I have here.

Am I right in saying that the camera is piggybacking on the scope seperately to what's going on with the webcam?
i.e. The webcam is at prime focus.

I thought maybe that the flip mirror was a thing that was seperate to the camera, made for thi job.

it seems like I'm only confusing you.
Forget about piggybacking the camera or anything else.

You have either the webcam or the camera or camcorder at prime focus, it doesn't matter which you choose,
and the flip mirror lies between either of the above and the scope.

If you look at my avatar, you can see the silver 300D lying at the lower left end of the scope where the eyepiece would normally be, the part inbetween it and the main tube of the scope is the flip mirror, you can see the centering eyepiece pointing up.
