I had a look back at my own image and I think I see a slightly whitish area to the upper right of the bottom polar cap, I think it corresponds to what your talking about.
If this is cloud, then that would be very cool  , I didnt think it was really possible to catch clouds on Mars.

Just looking through my images from 2003:
There does appear to lighter area at the bottom of the image (2nd image is after aligning and processing in photoshop, must try this again in registax3). Whether thats a bright sandstorm, cloud, or just some atmospheric trick closer to home I'm not sure. Just thought it might add to the discussion.
Remember a few years ago when we thought images like that were great?
Cheers,
~Al

Assuming that all the images have south to the bottom then I think that this is the south polar cap. It is more visible in another proceessed AVI of mine (following DaveG's advice on quality settings, thanks).
More curious is the large bright area in both of both Dave's images in the North that is not in my image taken a day earlier than both other images. Could this be a North Polar cloud hood that has grown?

Mike, strange what you didnt see then, I also have the white areas in my image (another thread).
Dave I'm refering to the lightness at the centre/bottom left of the image near Solis Lacus not sure if it is cloud or not

I have used different Kodak Wratten filters visually to distinguish cloud detail.
For example, blue-white and white clouds are enhanced if you use no 58 green. Maria are enhanced if you use 38 blue. The yellow clouds are enhanced by using 12, 21 and 25 (yellow, orange and red). Using video the exposure are going to be longer. You'll need to experiment on that one. You also may have to use an IR blocking filter in order to rebalance the colour when using above filters

Mike,
One thing I did notice today is that in one batch of stacked images, I also got no white pole at the top!, I cant expalin why its not there in some and is in others. I'll look into it more and see if I can come up a reason.
