hows it going ..
nice pic of the moon there,,, picked up a skylux today as well, and tried it out a while ago, i was fairly impressed with the view of the moon it showed, it was exactly like the pic above.. only thing, i was practically blinded, by it,
i didn't realise it could be so bright...

tried getting a view of Mars, but as i'm still figuring out eq mount and stuff, it was kinda hard to get a good lock on it..
best i got was small orange dot...

overall, it seems like good value at 60 euro

oh yeah, tried taking a pic of moon as well through the telescope, but got a kind of white smudge,(i'm not very good at night photography...)

Hi,
Astrophotography is a tricky business, one which takes alot of practice.
you're description of Mars might be all you ever see of it through this scope, planets like Jupiter and Saturn are much more interesting as it is easier to see detail. All the same I agree, deffo worth the 60E. :)

I think they need to have a look at the lidl website

First off Dave is right, you'll never see a huge amount of detail on Mars with the Skylux. However, you will be able to pick out surface shading and "phasing" with a little practice. I observed Mars last night at 20:20 with my newly aquired Skylux and despite the bright Moon "next door" I could clearly make out the slight gibbous phase of the planet and could just see the dark Mare Sirenum in the southern hemisphere. The key to achieving this is FOCUS. You have to get the focus spot on and this takes time. But stick with it and you will be rewarded. And if you can pick out some detail on Mars then Jupiter and Saturn will be a doddle and blow you away in the process :D

WOW  Very hard to argue with that! One question Dave, Why did you use the low resolution on the camera. It would have been fascinating to see just what detail you might have acheived using the full res of the camera.

Excellent image WTG

Dave,
I know what you're thinking, detail is lost using lower resolution, I did take a single image at higher resolution but seemed to made no differance, but remember I used low image size with "fine" detail.
I'll try again next time its clear and push it as high it will go, and let the public decide if its worth it.
I think a high end barlow might have helped, maybe !
I hate using barlows and diagonals are a big NO NO when imaging.

I also try and keep images here below 100K, I dont want to be hogging the BW, I could slap up much bigger images which would show more detail, but I'd be hung from the beams.
