Thanks for the knd words - yes, detail on Ganymede is possible to see, and also detail on Callisto under good seeing conditions.
Io is harder, but when it's in transit it's possible to see the bright equatorial reqion in contrast to the darker poles, here's an image from last month that shows this:

I've already said it but I'm gonna say it again!!
I never thought this level of detail was possible!
They are better then most of the images from the pre voyager era, think of all the money NASA could have saved if they had used this scope and camera.

Have you guys head of Damian Peach? He lives somewhere not far from you.
He's the guy we're all trying to catch. If you haven't seen his websit then it's a worthwhile visit...
www.damianpeach.com
ps you can also see other aussies posting great images on one of the australian boards - www.iceinspace.com.au
(no, I'm not trying to steal anyone away from here, I just love reading these irish accents).

You'll have a much better view of Saturn and Mars for the next few years, Jupiter is good for us down South, so there's the tradeoff I suppose...

Holy smokes! Bird, is that surface detail I can see on Ganymede or is it an artefact of processing? If that is true detail on Ganymede then I am absolutely stunned! We're lucky to see detail on the disk of Jupiter here in soggy, foggy Ireland!
Hats off, you lucky, lucky (expletive deleted )
Phil.

Anthony (bird),
I think we will have to ban you... the jealousy is really starting to kick in, and I can't kick you!
