Looks like it certainly planetary imaging season again, Last night I was out on the first perfectly clear night in a while and just had to catch an image of Venus and Jupiter.

Venus is massive in the webcam, the phase has noticeably changed since a week or so ago, see
www.irishastronomy.org/boards/viewtopic.php?t=6690
Its was lower to the horizon this time, so the colour is a little more yellow.
Jupiter was a very difficult object to get any kind of image of, my 45 minute window for it between roof tops just flies. The heat from nearby houses just boils the disk.
One thing about the image that looks a little odd, as if the way the upper bright belt looks overexposed, so merging with its neighbour, I had a look at the original images and its not overexposed, so maybe this just a seeing thing or maybe this is real, I just don't remember seeing this belt like that before. Its disk is a little soft, as per its low altitude (15 degrees at meridian) with the poor seeing at the altitude.
Venus was crystal clear and the seeing with it was pretty good.

Both were 3100 frames captured, with about 2500 stacked in registax.

Nope, straight forward bog standard toucam+ & IR blocking filter.
I'm thinking of staying up to get Mars tonight, I'm feeling lucky
Jupiter was difficult processing run, it took a good few hours to get it to that, on the other hand, Venus was fairly straight forward, thankfully.

Dave,
That image is particularly interesting. I observed Jupiter Tuesday evening and noticed something which is also in your image: is it my imagination or is one of the equatorial cloud belts very faint??

Nice images Dave.
To me some of the belts look like they are changing colour.
Getting lighter in some areas and darker in others.
I had a quick look on the web and there are reports of this all over...
maybe we are seeing the beginnings of a major change of the belts?
