yep, jupiter is changing alright. we noticed this at an observing session a month ago, but didn't give it much thought. the hubble site has a press release on it with a before and after pic

The GRS is visible tonight and is it just me or is it ALOT more red then usual, I was able to very easily see it, no problem ! it always looked very pale to me, now it looks , well, red.!

hang on, I think I know what's up with it, it seems to be surrounded by alot more white then before, so now it stands out alot more, anyone else think so? or am I loosing the plot :lol:

Dave, I think this shot shows what you are talking about.
It's from just a few min ago and yea the GRS is VERY visible.
The surrounding area is a lot whiter (new storms?)
You can just make out Ganymede on the limb of the planet as it ended it's transit.

Interesting changes in the cloud patterns for sure!

That's two very distinct and separate questions Dave! :wink: :)
With the former, I think there is a very white northern region there alright.
As for the latter, well, I'll have to think about that and see if I can come up with a wording for an answer without offending you too much... :)

To prove that I'm loosing the plot, does the GRS look a little extended left right????, I also got this in my pics. I know that if you leave the images run too long it can smear left-right due to Jupiter's rapid rotation, but it really does look elongated to me, kinda reminds me of some very old drawings of the GRS from centuries back.
