Hi all,

Know my DSLR inside out and am well familiar with long exposures also beginning to get to grips with the GoTO on the telescope but haven't the foggiest where to start to fit these together and produce some deep sky images, I'm aware of fitting the camera to the scope, but with what? Will the sensor pick up dust if left open on the scope? Will any method accept a Barlow lens? Sorry for so many (probably annoying} questions and forgive my ignorance, have been looking online but feel overwhelmed with information.
Hope someone can help, thanks

Hi, the first connector is a fitting similar to the one on the Nikon lens. It's purely mechanical, no electrical pins.
The next connector attaching to the first can be 1"1/4 adaptor to go straight into focusser. I think 2 inch versions exist too, and some Focussers have threads to screw the first adaptor straight on.
I can post pics in a few days when I'm home.

Dust can be an issue, but if you keep your adaptors clean, with the camera pointing down it's not a big risk. I think D7000 has a clean routine, and if that doesn't work a hurricane blower would shift it.
I'm a life's too short kinda guy ;-)

I have a 2x barlow that I can connect my Olympus to using a t adaptor that can be bought from most photography websites.

Howdy,

Loads of ways to attach your dslr to the scope but the easiest and cheapest is to get a "t mount" and "t-adaptor" to use your scope as a manual lens.

A more advanced option is to use a t ring and a reducer/flattener.

I've never had a problem with dust with either configuration as you can always keep a cap on the end of the adaptor when not in use. When attached to the scope there's little risk of any dust getting in unless the telescope is choc-a-bloc full of it, but you could always have a clear filter attached if you're being ultra-cautious.

What kind of telescope is it? LXDs came in Newtonian, Refractor and SCT variants as far as I remember. If it's a newtonian you may have issues reaching focus and you could need a Baader MPCC to shift the focal point outwards. Refractor should work out of the box I think - at least it has on any I tried and that's my current configuration. Not sure about SCT as I haven't tried that in years and years.

Here's a link to a t-mount

and adptor

Those are just samples. If you have a google around you could find cheaper ones (or on fleabay).

If using a barlow make sure it's a 2" one or you'll get terrible vignetting.

Thanks for the info folks, Stephen @ ktectelescopes.ie was a great help and now am awaiting the t-ring and adapter in the post.

Trevor, it's a Newtonian reflector, will have to look up the 'Baader MPCC' as I've not come across it yet, hopefully it'l all work in sync without more headaches but doubt that very much

Had a serious attempt last night and the night before with the t-ring and adapter but unfortunately I couldn't reach focus on the reflector, seemed like there wasn't enough down focus to accomplish any result, tried with a 2xBarlow although think it may of helped a little but still nowhere near focus, don't want to move my secondary mirror up as I've heard it's not good for observing, is the next step a Baader MPCC?
