Perseids Meteor Shower 2015 was created by Seanie_Morris
Just looking ahead at some events to look forward to (in the sky), and this year looks like the best year for a while to catch the Perseids Meteor Shower. The predictive peak (this far ahead) is on the night of August 12th/13th (Wednesday night/Thursday morning). New Moon is officially Friday August 14th, so - astronomically speaking - it's almost perfect this year.

Peaks on the night range from 60 to 100 per hour. Perseids are known for their bollide (fireball) production too. As they are strong, they are also a prime target for radio astronomers.

Some clubs have tried time and again for Perseids Meteor Watches and StarBQs across Ireland. This kind of news should encourage an effort this year, as the lack of moonlight, and being close to a weekend, makes it attractive.

Just lettin' ya know!

Indeed Roy,

Planning to head down to Kerry on the Wednesday to hopefully see the peak in those seriously dark skies.

My missus won't give me the car until Thursday :( . Is that grounds for divorce?
