I was hoping to shoot it with my camera tomorrow night as it passed Orion's belt - the US Navy beat me to it
I wonder does this help as a first step to developing a meteorite interceptor. The sattellite was travelling at 17,000 mph when it was hit, up that quite a bit for a potential earth impacting body, but maybe some good could come out of this, apart from military showboating. I ain't holding my breath though.

Likelihood is they will time the missile to hit it over the Atlantic.
I think you mean Pacific. It is the largest water mass. When previous satellites (and Mir) were brought down, it was brought down over the Pacific.
Turns out it was the Pacific after all.
