Unlikely to be nuclear powered apparently.

I've read reports that there is some radioactive stuff on board..............but i reckon that is speculation because that kinda info would be kept top secret.

Once they blow it up in orbit...................any radioactive material should not effect the planet.

It will just be MORE space junk created by man.

In 1918 US Senator Hiram Warren Johnson said:
"The first casualty when war comes is the truth".

Coming so soon after the Chinese deliberately destroyed a satellite I bet the Americans are trying out their own technology.

They roundly condemned the Chinese at the time so a little "excuse" is needed for the Americans to do the same thing.

Me cynic.

Thats all we need.....a game of space invaders....in space, I can hear the sound effects right now ptuew, ptuew, bleep bleep. (game over) highest score 360 - free go.

I think PJ and others are right. Ronald Regan's Star Wars programme was put on ice in the eighties. But lets test fire the system - check the software.

me cynic too

The intercept attempt, which will involve a Standard Missile 3 fired from a U.S. Navy Aegis ship, will take place during a window that opens after NASA's space shuttle Atlantis returns from its International Space Station-construction mission Feb. 20 and will remain open for several days. The window was selected based on the satellite's current re-entry trajectory and the U.S. government's desire to minimize hazards in space, in the air and on the ground.

This morning's space dot com's article .
