Got a few seconds visibility through a PST at 5:30 in Cork as the Sun rose through cloud banks.

Horizon to horizon cloud in Spiddal as well unfortunately :(
We all gathered around a mobile phone to watch the transit on YouTube...
Hope to see some pics from those who had luck with the weather though!

The Sun finally cleared the cloud on the Horizon over the Irish sea from the Vantage point of Bray Head.......

...........30 seconds after last contact

I kid You not!!

Gutted. Close but no Cigar is even worse than a total washout. I thought Venus was the God of Love not the God of Mischief !!

Total cloud cover at Lamb Doyles. Fortunately Albert brought his Ipad so we watched a bit on NASA TV.

I completely concur with Calibos. About a dozen of us went home deeply disappointed from a car park in Bray. Even some were extremely angry going home. To miss an event by a mere 30 seconds is utterly devastating. I must congratulate any who saw the Transit of Venus. Do be very grateful.

I tried to cheer people up by stating there is a transit of Mercury in 2016, and I did observe lovely waning gibbous Moon, which I was delighted with. Mare Crisium, and all the associated seas were stunning to see. Craters Tycho, Proclus, Copernicus and Aristarchus were all showing their glory.

Next interesting event for me is the Mars -Saturn conjunction on August 15.

Aubrey.
